Robert John Cook is the founder of Café Art Studio a journey he began in 2010.  Robert’s mission is assist fellow Cape Codders by serving the community with the talents off local artists, musicians, and sailors on Cape Cod for the purpose of Giving Generously.

Since childhood Robert has pursued his passion for art, music, and sailing.  During his young adult years he traveled to Santa Fe to study painting and sculpture of renowned artist Michael Andryc at Andryc’s studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1981 and returned to study with Andryc in 1994 and 2001.

Robert attended college at The University of New Orleans and lived in the city for many years before returning to New England and settling in New Hampshire.  While he lived in southern New Hampshire Robert worked as an Engineer in Europe- Switzerland, England, Italy and Germany.  After traveling a majority of the world, Robert moved back home to Cape Cod in 2004.  To help the local Cape Cod art community Robert created one of the largest attended shows in the history of the Cape Cod Museum of Art, “The Salon Refuses” in 2009.  Robert has also assisted the Cape Cod Veteran community returning home with his weekly television program Welcome Home.  Which matches an artist with a veteran using the artistic process as one means of therapy and escapism.  Robert also hosts his own podcast on iTunes regarding the art community on Cape Cod.

Robert leads his life following his personal credo – “Making your mark on the world in a positive way is the ultimate goal”. With this belief Robert makes sure, on a daily basis, that he is helping others and contributing to his community.  Most recently Robert started an outreach program, “Welcome Home”, to assist veterans returning home from the war.  The program matches a volunteer artist with a veteran. The artist then teaches the veteran their particular art form, allowing for the artistic process and the camaraderie between artist and veteran to work as a form therapy.

On the personal side, Robert’s passion for the sea transcends his daily life and is an integral part of his daily art, music, writing, and sailing. He lives just steps from a river which leads to the Atlantic Ocean.  He enjoys kayaking on the river or sailing his antique sailboat to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket for the weekend. This summer he plans to sail once again around the Cape stopping off in Falmouth Harbor, Wellfleet Harbor and Hyannis Harbor.  Robert’s other outlets include folk music, and enjoys playing his Martin Guitar, writing songs and performing live across Cape Cod.  Robert has researched his family tree – branches reaching from The Mayflower and Indians to County Galway, Ireland- and wrote a book titled, PRIDE. A descendant of five Pilgrims, including William Brewster, Robert John Cook captures his passion for his forefather’s initiatives with a strong desire to improve the Cape Cod community that his forefather’s began.  Respective of his forefather Pilgrims, Robert, always imaginative as an artist, Robert John Cook lives an breathes Café Art Studio it’s in his blood.

In addition to being the Chairman of the Board for Café Art Studio, Robert John Cook currently serves, or has served, on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Cape Cod Arts Association, Nauset Painters Guild, Cape Cod Celtic Society, and the Yarmouth Art Guild.  He is a member of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and former Chairman of the Yarmouth Historical Commission.
